In updates made available to Shemnews on Saturday, Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that a joint rescue team involving the Nepali Army and South Korean emergency relief workers rescued a Chinese national, identified as Lu Haitao, from inside a hydropower tunnel. In a separate operation, a 60-year-old woman was also rescued from the upper floor of a four-story building.

The catastrophic flash floods that struck the country last week have left widespread devastation in their wake, with the death toll now rising to 1,375, according to tallies from Nepali and Chinese authorities. Thousands more remain missing as emergency teams race against time to locate survivors. Key details of the ongoing rescue efforts include:

* Hydropower Tunnel Rescues: The Chinese national was found approximately 225 meters deep inside the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower plant tunnel. His rescue comes just one day after two Nepali men were dramatically pulled alive from another hydropower tunnel in the area.

* High-Tech Search Operations: To locate the survivors trapped deep beneath the mud and debris, rescue teams have been relying on satellite imagery to map the buried infrastructure.

* International Assistance: A South Korean disaster relief team, originally dispatched to search for missing Korean workers, played a crucial role in assisting the Nepali Army during Saturday's successful tunnel rescue.

Hundreds of tunnel workers are still unaccounted for following the disaster, as authorities continue exhaustive search and recovery operations across the affected regions.
