In details made available to Shemnews, Perry originally purchased approximately 330 acres of the historic property in June 2015. The acquisition followed a federal commission's decision to shutter the army base, a move that had placed nearly 3,000 civilian jobs at risk. With the deal, Perry cemented his place in cinematic history by becoming the first African American to outright own a major film studio.

The campus has since expanded to 368 acres, incorporating six additional buildings and parking complexes.

Today, the facility blends cutting-edge technology with historic preservation, boasting 40 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places within a 33-acre preserved district that doubles as operational filming sets. The studio's backlot features an array of permanent structures and global replicas, including a full-scale recreation of the White House, a New York brownstone streetscape, an Italian village, an airport terminal, an airplane fuselage interior, and a replica of Madea's iconic home in a zone dubbed Maxineville.

More than 200 high-profile film, television, and live productions have utilized the expansive campus since its inception. Notable titles filmed on-site include blockbusters such as Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Coming 2 America, and Bad Boys for Life, alongside major television franchises and national events including the 2019 Democratic primary debates and the 2019 Miss Universe competition.

Beyond entertainment production, the facility remains an economic anchor for South Atlanta. The studio regularly employs crews of over 500 local residents, with Perry noting he has hired over 32,000 individuals across his 28-year entertainment career.

Looking to the future, Tyler Perry Studios has partnered with Synapse Virtual Production to convert an existing stage into an advanced virtual production soundstage, slated to become fully operational for external productions by late 2026. Perry has often reflected that the venture is rooted in creating generational legacy and community inspiration, naming the campus headquarters "The Dream Building" to serve as a symbol of possibility in the neighborhood.
